Antivirus: What we advise and not advise!

Antivirus: What we advise and not advise!

Your system security and protection are important. Antivirus software helps you to maintain your system security by keeping viruses and other malware off your computers.
Although any comprehensive antivirus product on the market is generally acceptable and should cause no interference with the normal operation of your Visual Matrix PMS software, there are a few with which we are experienced and can provide advice on.
Note: The reviews and recommendations below are not necessarily an endorsement of any product. You should always contact your local IT staff to perform adequate research before purchasing any product. We do not sell or provide any antivirus software.

ESET NOD32
From our development team: ESET NOD32 Antivirus is an award-winning antivirus with fast and powerful detection of viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkits, and other malware. ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 features an all-new Anti-Phishing module that identifies and protects you from fake websites trying to acquire your personal information.
Our take: This is the only antivirus product for which we guarantee 100% compatibility. NOD32 has a lower instance of false positives and is incredibly accurate and secure.

Norton Antivirus
From our development team: Basic antivirus protection that stops viruses and spyware, so you can safely go online and share. Five patented layers of protection quickly and accurately detect and eliminate viruses and spyware. Lets you download and freely share without getting or passing on viruses. Protects your privacy and prevents your passwords and identity from being stolen when you surf the web.
Our take: Norton Antivirus is a solid product. There are few instances of false positives and it has been an industry-standard product for many years. However, it can at times be a little cumbersome and may occasionally cause system slowness more than other options.

McAfee Antivirus
From our development team: Essential security software so you can surf, shop, and socialize online while our antivirus software, antimalware, and firewall keep you safe.
Our take: Like Norton, McAfee is a big player in the antivirus industry. Other than some initial configuration steps, McAfee offers a fairly solid product without much overhead.

Other Antivirus Products

Trend Micro Worry - Free
From our development team: Keeps your Windows PCs and file servers safe from viruses, threats, and dangerous web sites-so you know your valuable business data is protected. Powered by the Trend Micro™ Smart Protection Network™, the same infrastructure that we use to safeguard some of the world's biggest enterprises.
Our take: More expensive than other options, but a solid product with very little bloat or speed issues.

Products to Avoid

The following products are known to occasionally have or cause issues and conflicts with other software, including Visual Matrix. When configured properly, they present no real issues, but the configuration is either cumbersome or confusing - and we can't even begin to recommend a cumbersome or confusing option.

AVG Antivirus
AVG has a high instance of false positives and has been known to completely disable the Visual Matrix software. This causes unneeded downtime and problems for our clients. This product is not recommended or supported.

Kaspersky
Once or twice a year, Kaspersky tends to release an update that completely disables the Visual Matrix software. This causes unneeded downtime and problems for our clients. The product is confusing and difficult to configure and is not recommended unless you have a full-time IT staffer who will manage the product for you. Even then, there are better options.

Avast!
Avast is popular because it offers a free antivirus option - although it should be noted that the free version is for non-commercial use only and should not be used by a business. The free antivirus product nags you continuously to upgrade. Business users should always purchase a proper license to the software. Avast is not a terrible option when configured properly; however, out of the box, it almost always interferes with normal operations until the confusing configurations are done.
