FAQ - Revenue Management / Auto-Tiering

What is auto-tiering and how does it work?
Auto-tiering automatically adjusts rates based on occupancy triggers, selecting the appropriate tier rate and pushing it to your Channel Manager.
Can I include out-of-order rooms or group blocks in occupancy?
Yes, and it’s configurable. Including or excluding them affects when your triggers activate.
How many tiers can I configure?
You can set up to 9 trigger levels (plus the base), each linked to a different occupancy percentage.
What does the "Rate Level Open/Close" feature do?
It lets you control which rate levels (A–H) are available for booking based on time and occupancy trigger combinations.
How is the "Rate Level Open/Close" feature configured?
Click any cell in the occupancy vs. booking window grid, then select which levels to open or close for that specific combination.
Who can use the "Rate Level Open/Close" feature?
Only properties with Rate Levels enabled, will see and use this option.
What is CTA used for?
It restricts arrivals on a specified day (e.g., Saturday) to ensure bookings include an adjacent night (e.g., Friday), improving occupancy balance.
How do I set up CTA?
Enter an occupancy percentage, number of days in advance, and a specific day of week. If these conditions are met, the CTA is triggered automatically.
Is CTA widely used?
It’s optional and not commonly used today. Many revenue managers prefer manual restrictions or more dynamic strategies like MLOS.
If I'm only using Visual Matrix for Rate Level Close, do I still need to configure tier triggers?
Yes. Even if you're not using tiering for pricing, you must still configure occupancy triggers and booking windows in the Auto-Tiering setup. These triggers are what drive when your Rate Levels (A–H) will open or close, so they remain essential for using restriction logic.
Can I use CTA with an external RMS like BestRev?
Technically yes, but it’s not recommended. The CTA feature is a legacy function with limited strategic benefit and is not occupancy-aware across adjacent days. Most properties using BestRev prefer to focus on Rate Level Open/Close rather than CTA, as it provides greater control and flexibility.
