Merchant Link MagTek DynaPad

Merchant Link MagTek DynaPad

The MagTek Dynapad is only compatible with Merchant Link/Transaction Link. If you are switching to Shift4, you will have to replace those hardware by SREDKEY devices compatible with Shift4 processing.

What is the MagTek Dynapad

This devices allows hotels the flexibility to accept both swiped transactions and manually entered transactions where sensitive card data is always encrypted.
When using the DynaPAD, Credit Card numbers are not entered into Visual Matrix. Instead the DynaPAD takes the CC number and encrypts it (Instead of XXXs the middle numbers are 000s) then sends that encrypted number to Visual Matrix. Thus Visual Matrix never sees the actual Credit Card number.
The DynaPAD is only compatible with Merchant link and Transaction Link.

What are the Benefits of a Dynapad

This will vary depending if you are using Merchant link or Transaction link (EMV). However both benefit from an end-to-end encryption.
End to End encryption means that from the moment the card is swiped/entered into the DynaPAD device, the CC is encrypted. Visual Matrix never stores the real CC number. This provides a more secure practice of handling Credit Card numbers.

Transaction Link customers already have end-to-end encryption through the pinpads. Which also mean that they cannot enter a real credit card number in Visual Matrix, but they have to go through a pinpad.
Sometimes, the pinpads are not easily accessible by the front desk because they are installed on the guest's side of the counter. Thus, when the front desk creates a reservation, he/she has to find a way to reach the pinpads to be able to guarantee the reservation.
The DynaPad will solve this problem by allowing Transaction link customers to use this extra pinpad to manually enter credit card numbers into Visual Matrix. This will keeps you from having to buy an expensive pin pad.

Setup an Dynapad

Each DynaPad unit are setup by Visual Matrix before being shipped. The DynaPad are plug and play.
To Test if it was setup correctly, open Notepad and swipe a CC. If data enters the notepad, then the DynaPad is setup correctly.

How to use a DynaPad

On a reservation:
1- Select CC as the method of payment (just like a normal CC reader)
2- The DynaPAD will show "Swipe/entercard#"
3- Swipe or enter manally the guest's credit card with the expiration date
4- Press Enter
5- The DynPAD will say Transaction Completed and send the encrypted number to Visual Matrix.
The first and last four numbers match the credit card. Those can be used for verification. The middle numbers are encrypted and cannot be viewed by anyone.
Encryption uses 0's instead of X's. The Guest Name will display as "Manual Entry."
6- Once the card is in the CC window, click Accept to save the card number. The credit card will then be tokenize and saved into Visual Matrix.
The token number will start with "8", just like all other tokenized card.

Troubleshooting Tips

Does it light up? Screen should be light up when plugged in. There is also a green light right above the number 7 that indicates power.
If it does not light up try a different USB port on the computer.
Move it to a different computer to see if it will power up there.

Will it swipe into notepad? Just like a regular CC reader, the DynaPAD should swipe into notepad.
If it powers up but does not swipe into notepad, open a ticket at help.visualmatrix.com.
