Split a Charge in a Guest Folio (Cloud) 🎥

🎥 Watch Video
When a single expense needs to be divided—such as when roommates share a room and choose to split costs—the Split Charge function in Visual Matrix Cloud lets you divide one line-item into up to four separate portions. This article explains how to split a charge within a guest folio and what percent-based allocation means for each share.

Notes
This article explains how to split a single charge within one guest folio. If you need each guest to have their own folio (for example, when sharing a room but paying separately), you’ll first need to set up folio splits before posting or transferring charges.

Instructions

1. Select the line item within the guest folio that you want to split.

2. Click the Tools icon and choose Split.

3. In the Split dialog, allocate the charge into up to four separate percentages that together equal 100 %. Ensure each portion is assigned appropriately (each share will appear on its own folio).

4. Click Submit.

5. Review the folio to confirm that the original line item has been replaced by the split portions.

Info
The steps above describe how to split a charge within the same folio. If you want each guest to have their portion appear on a separate folio (B, C, or D), you’ll need to transfer the split charges to those folios using the Transfer a Charge Between Guest’s Folios (Cloud) option.

Still need help with this topic?

Ask Yourself:
- Did I select the correct line item to split?
- Have I allocated percentages that sum to 100 % across all shares?
- Did I review each resulting folio to confirm correct posting?

Support May Ask You:
- Which folio and line item did you attempt to split?
- Into how many portions did you allocate the charge?
- What percentage or amount did each share receive?
- Did you receive any error message when you clicked Submit?
