Sales Tax Settings (Cloud)

Sales Taxes are percentage-based taxes that can be applied to non-room revenue transactions, such as restaurant charges, retail sales, parking fees, or other taxable services. Visual Matrix allows properties to create multiple Sales Tax Codes and assign them to accounting codes through Accounting Code Setup.
Path: Management > Property Settings > Taxes Settings > Sales Tax Codes

Configure Sales Tax Codes

Sales Tax Codes define the tax percentages that can be applied to sales-related transactions throughout the PMS.
Account Code
Identifies the Sales Tax Code used for this sales tax.
After creating a Sales Tax Code, it can be assigned to an accounting code through Accounting Code Setup.
Important: A tax code used in the Sales Tax Codes section cannot also be used in the Revenue Tax Codes section.
Tax Percent
Defines the sales tax percentage applied when the Sales Tax Code is used.

Example:
Sales AmountTax PercentageTax Amount
$100.008%$8.00
Post Separately
Controls whether the sales transaction and tax appear as separate lines or as a combined amount on guest folios.

When enabled:
DescriptionAmount
Restaurant Charge$100.00
Sales Tax$8.00

When disabled, the charge may appear as a single combined amount.
This setting affects folio presentation only and does not change how taxes are calculated.

Assign Sales Tax Codes to Accounting Codes

Sales Tax Codes do not apply automatically. After creating a Sales Tax Code, it must be assigned to an accounting code through Accounting Code Setup.
  1. Sales Tax Code 1: Assigns the primary Sales Tax Code to an accounting code.
  2. Sales Tax Code 2: Assigns an additional Sales Tax Code when multiple sales taxes are required.
Notes
A single accounting code can have up to two Sales Tax Codes assigned.

Example:
The following Sales Tax Codes have been created:

Sales Tax Code
Percentage
State Sales Tax
6%
County Sales Tax
2%

The codes are assigned to a restaurant revenue accounting code. When a $100.00 restaurant charge is posted:
  1. Restaurant Revenue: $100.00
  2. State Sales Tax: $6.00
  3. County Sales Tax: $2.00
  4. Total Charge: $108.00
