Market Segments help categorize your guests based on the type of business they bring to your property, such as corporate travelers, leisure guests, or group bookings. This information is essential for tracking performance, analyzing trends, and improving your marketing strategy. Setting up Market Segments ensures that reservations are properly classified and that reports and exports reflect accurate segmentation data.
Path: Sales & Marketing > Setup > Market Segments

Instructions

The Market Segments setup allows you to create, manage, and control how reservations are categorized in the system.

1. Choose whether the Market Segment field should be required:
  1. Check Required to force users to select a market segment for every reservation
  2. Leave unchecked to allow optional selection
Notes
If not required, select a default market segment that will automatically populate when saving reservations.

2. To create a New Market Segment, go to the last available row in the list, and enter the following information:
  1. Code: Short identifier for the segment.
  2. Description: Name of the segment (e.g., Corporate, Leisure).
  3. Budget % (optional): Used for comparison in reporting.
3. Check the Active box to enable the segment.
4. Click the Save (floppy disk) icon to store the new segment.

Alert
Each line must be saved individually.
When editing existing entries, make sure to click Save on each line after making changes. If multiple lines are updated without saving, clicking Save on one line may reset the others, and those changes will be lost.

Understanding Market Segments

Market Segments allow you to group reservations by type of guest or business source, such as:
  1. Corporate
  2. Leisure
  3. Group
  4. Government
  5. Tour/Travel
These segments help properties:
  1. Analyze revenue by guest type
  2. Track production trends
  3. Compare performance against budget
  4. Improve marketing targeting
Notes
Market segmentation is commonly used to understand customer groups and tailor strategies better accordingly.
Idea
  1. Ensure segments are consistently used across reservations for accurate reporting.
  2. If the field is not required, a default segment helps maintain data consistency.
Warning
Important Notes
  1. Deactivating or deleting a Market Segment may affect reporting and historical data.
  2. Market Segments are used in reports and forecasts, including Referral Code reports.
  3. Market Segments are also used in external integrations, such as channel managers and rate mapping tables. Removing or deactivating a segment that is currently mapped can cause issues with rate plans or prevent reservations from being received.
