Use Snipping Tool to Capture Screenshots (Windows)



Snipping Tool is a Microsoft Windows screenshot utility included in Windows Vista and later. It can take still screenshots of an open window, rectangular areas, a free-form area, or the entire screen. Snips can then be annotated using a mouse or a tablet, stored as an image file or an MHTML file, or e-mailed.

1. Find and Open Snipping Tool

Use the Windows Search field on the taskbar to search for "Snipping Tool".
Select Snipping Tool Application.


2. Capture a snip

In Snipping Tool, select Mode and choosing the kind of snip you want to take (free-form, rectangular, window or full-screen).
The whole screen will change slightly to gray.
Select the area of your screen that you want to capture by holding the left click on your mouse.
Release your finger from the mouse to take the snip.




3. Save the snip

To save the snip, go to "File > Save As".

To keep this utility on the taskbar, right click on Snipping Tool and choose "Pin to taskbar".
