If you have an Office365 email account, you may have encountered some issues with Visual Matrix as you
might have enabled more security protocols on your Office/Microsoft/Azure accounts. We have found two solutions so far.
However, if you still encounter any issue setting up an app password with a Microsoft application, we invite you to contact their support who will walk you through their process.
Solution #1: Enable SMTP and disable the two-step factor authentication
Step1: Enable the SMTP settings on your Microsoft 365 tenant as well as enable the SMTP settings on the specific email address you want to use in Visual Matrix.
Step2: Disable the Two-Step Factor Authentication on this same specific email address.
All these changes completed
in PowerShell and in the Azure Active Directory settings should get the issue resolved.
Solution #2: Create an App Password
After you turn on two-step verification or set up the Authenticator app, you may run into issues if you use apps or older devices (like Windows Phone 8 and Xbox 360) that don't support two-step verification.
If you have two-step verification turned on and an app isn't prompting you to enter a security code when you sign in, you may be able to sign in with an app password instead.
What is an App Password?
An app password is a long, randomly generated password that you provide only once instead of your regular password when signing in to an app or device that doesn't support two-step verification.
You only need to create an app password if you have two-step verification turned on and are using an app that doesn't support it.
How to create a new app password
To create a new app password for an app or device, take the following steps.
Select
More security options.
Under
App passwords, select
Create a new app password. A new app password is generated and appears on your screen.
Enter this app password where you would enter your normal Microsoft account password in the application.
You can repeat these steps to create an app password for as many apps or devices as you need. Once you have created and entered an app password for a given app or device, you usually won't need to do it again.
What we have found
If the two-step verification is not enabled on your Office365 account, you will not be able to create an app password.
Receiving a one-time code on your phone is only one part of the MFA (multi-factor authentication) process.
If you have followed all the steps and it is still not saving, then we will advise seeing with Microsoft/Azure/Office support why the password is still being rejected when testing the connection.
There should be a log where they can find this information.
