Configure or Re-Configure ID Scanner VM-1031 (Serial Number other than 201911)
This article specifically addresses the ID scanners provided directly by Visual Matrix.
In most cases, the ID Scanner VM-1031 (Driver License Scanner) will not need any configuration. It should be functional on most systems right out of the box as "plug and play". However, if you are running into any trouble with scanning driver licenses, you can reset the scanner.
Check the serial number type of your ID scanner: this article is for the ID Scanners with the serial number not starting with 201911. See the quicklinks above for the other serial.
The following steps must be scanned in the order listed. If not, the scanner will not be configured correctly. Also, make sure you hide any other barcode of the page for the ID to scan only one barcode at a time.
Ensure that the scanner is connected to the computer and that the red scanning lights are operational.

Some states have two barcodes on the back of the license – the large, 2D barcode that is used by the VM-1031 scanner, and a smaller, more conventional barcode.
Scanning the small barcode instead of the large one will result in a failed scan error. To alleviate this problem, scan the barcode below.

The VM-1031 scanner will scan barcodes at any time, not just when you are in the DL Scan function of the software.
To help eliminate accidental scans, you may want to place your VM-1031 scanner into Manual Mode. This mode requires that you press the button on top of the scanner in order to activate it each time you want to scan. If you want to put the scanner into Manual Mode, you can scan the barcode below.
