Configure or Re-Configure ID Scanner VM-1031 (Serial Number other than 201911)

This article pertains solely to ID Scanners provided by Visual Matrix.

In most instances, the VM-1031 ID Scanner (Driver License Scanner) should require no additional configuration and should be ready to use as a "plug and play" device on most systems. Nevertheless, if you encounter any difficulties while scanning driver licenses, you can reset the scanner.
Please verify the serial number type of your ID scanner; this article is intended for ID Scanners with serial numbers beginning with 201911. For information regarding other serial numbers, please refer to the quicklinks provided above.

It is crucial to follow the steps below in the specified order for correct scanner configuration. Additionally, please ensure that there are no other barcodes on the page, allowing the scanner to focus on scanning only one barcode at a time. Verify that the scanner is connected to the computer and that the red scanning lights are functioning correctly.

Some states have two barcodes on the back of the license – the large, 2D barcode that is used by the VM-1031 scanner, and a smaller, more conventional barcode.
Scanning the small barcode instead of the large one will result in a failed scan error. To alleviate this problem, scan the barcode below.

The VM-1031 scanner will scan barcodes at any time, not just when you are in the DL Scan function of the software.
To help eliminate accidental scans, you may want to place your VM-1031 scanner into Manual Mode. This mode requires that you press the button on top of the scanner in order to activate it each time you want to scan. If you want to put the scanner into Manual Mode, you can scan the barcode below.
