IP Security restricts access to your Visual Matrix system based on your property’s network. In some cases, you may need to allow access from an additional network—such as a secondary connection or backup internet. Adding an approved IP address allows access from that network while maintaining overall system security.
Path: Management > User Settings > Security > Manage IP Security
Overview
By default:
IP Security locks access to your primary network’s public IP.
Only that network can access the system.
Adding an IP allows:
Additional approved networks.
Continued access after network changes.
Controlled exceptions without disabling security.
When to Use This?
Only add an IP when:
Your property has multiple networks (e.g., failover ISP).
Your IP address has changed.
You need to allow a specific additional network.
This is not recommended for general off-site access. Use Remote Login instead for users outside the property.
Instructions
Security Warning
Adding an IP address to the approved list will allow access to the system from that network. Any user with valid login credentials connecting from this IP will be able to access the system. Only add IP addresses for trusted and controlled networks.
1. In the IP Address section, click Add.
2. Enter the new public IP address.
3. Save your changes.
Important Behavior & Warnings
Public IP Required
You must enter a public IP address, not a local/internal IP (e.g., 192.168.x.x).
Network-Specific Access
Each IP added represents a network location allowed to access the system.
Do Not Use for Remote Users
Adding IPs is not the recommended way to allow off-site access.
=> Use Remote Login instead
IP May Change
Your public IP can change due to ISP updates or network changes, which may require updates.
Management-Level Control Required
IP Security settings must be managed by a user with appropriate access to the setup page.
Support Limitation
For security and liability reasons, Visual Matrix Technicians are not permitted to add or modify IP addresses on behalf of a property. These changes must be completed by an authorized property user.
Important Clarification
Adding an IP allows access from a specific network location. It does not grant access to individual users.
User access is still controlled by User permissions and Remote Login settings
Common Mistakes
❌ Entering a local IP (192.168.x.x).
❌ Adding a home IP instead of enabling Remote Login.
❌ Adding unnecessary IPs instead of troubleshooting network issues.
❌ Forgetting to save changes.
Understanding the Behavior
IP Security works by allowing access only from approved public IP addresses.
Each added IP expands the list of approved networks.
If a user connects from an unlisted network, access will be denied.
