Allowing Users to Access the System from Outside the Property Network
Allowing Users to Access the System from Outside the Property Network
By default, access to your Visual Matrix system is restricted to your property’s network using IP Security. To allow a user to log in from outside the property—such as from home or on a mobile device—you must enable Remote Login access for that user. This ensures secure off-site access without removing network restrictions for all users.
Path: Management > User Settings > Security > Manage IP Security
Overview
Remote Login allows specific users to:
- Access the system from outside the property network
- Bypass IP Security restrictions (for that user only)
- Use mobile devices or remote workstations
This is the recommended and more secure method for off-site access instead of modifying IP Security.
Important Clarification
Remote Login allows users to access the system from outside the property network.
This is different from a Visual Matrix support technician connecting to your computer for assistance.
Instructions
1. After opening Manage IP Security, locate the user in the User List.
2. In the Remote Login column, change the value from No → Yes for the selected user.
3. Click Save to apply your changes.
Important Behavior & Rules
User-Specific Setting
Remote Login is enabled per user (not system-wide).
Overrides IP Restriction
Users with Remote Login enabled can access the system from outside the property network.
Recommended Over IP Changes
Do not modify IP Security settings to allow off-site access — use Remote Login instead.
Required for Mobile App
Remote Login must be enabled for users accessing the system via mobile devices.
Understanding When to Use This
Enable Remote Login when:
- A manager needs access from home
- Staff need access while traveling
- Mobile app access is required
- Users receive login errors due to location restrictions
Management-Level Control Required
Remote Login access must be enabled or disabled by a user with Management access and permission to modify user settings.
Support Limitation
Visual Matrix Support cannot enable or disable Remote Login on your behalf. If changes are needed, they must be completed by an authorized user within your property.
Common Scenario
If a user sees the error: “Unable to login from this location”.
This typically indicates that the user is attempting to access the system from outside the approved network.
Remote Login may be required, but additional factors—such as network configuration or IP Security settings—should also be considered.
