Password Logic – Username & Temporary Password Generation (MOP 2.0)
In MOP 2.0, usernames and temporary passwords are automatically generated for new users. This article explains:
- How MOP generates usernames
- How temporary passwords are created
- Special rules for short first names
- What happens at first login

Username Generation Logic
The username is automatically generated by MOP.
The username is based on the user’s first name.
The original PMS username is not transferred.
If the first name already exists in MOP, the system automatically applies a protocol to generate a unique variation.
The system ensures that each username is unique within the property.
Temporary Password Logic (MOP 2.0)
MOP automatically generates a temporary password for each new user.
The original PMS password is not transferred.
FIRSTNAME1234#
Password structure:
- User’s first name in ALL CAPS
- Followed by: 1234#
Example:
If the first name is Josh → Temporary password: JOSH1234#
Special Rule – First Name 2 Characters or Less
The password must meet the minimum 8-character requirement. If the first name contains 2 characters or fewer, MOP uses the following format:
FIRSTNAMETemp1234#
Example:
If the first name is El → Temporary password: ELTemp1234#
First Login Behavior
Upon first login at: app.vmmop.com
The user will be required to create a new password.
Usernames and temporary passwords are system-generated.
Passwords are case-sensitive.
The temporary password is intended for first-time access only.
Users should update their password immediately after logging in.
Still Need Help With This Topic?
Ask Yourself
- Do I know the user’s first name exactly as it appears on their profile (spelling matters for username/temp password generation)?
- Is the user’s first name 2 characters or less (which would trigger the Temp password format)?
- Could the user’s first name already be in use by another MOP user (which would cause a unique-variation username to be generated)?
- Has the user already logged in once and been prompted to create a new password (meaning the temporary password is no longer valid)?
Support May Ask You
- What is the user’s first name exactly as it appears in MOP?
- Is this the user’s first login to MOP, or have they logged in before?
- Do you see the user listed under Administration > Identity Management > Users?
- What username is shown for the user in MOP (especially if a duplicate first name forced a unique variation)?
- If the issue is password-related: are they using FIRSTNAME1234# or FIRSTNAMETemp1234# based on the first-name length?
